Job Title: Director, Merchandising Operations and Planning Job Type: Full Time FLSA: Exempt Job #: HQ536 Department / Store: LEADERSHIP TEAM City: Kent State: Washington Job Description: If you are a professional in the Merchandising field with a solid history of leading vision and strategy for merchandising business process design, system implementation, training, business readiness and change management and who is energized by developing talent and implementing change to make a difference for the business, we would like to talk to you. REI is in the midst of making some exciting changes to our core merchandising systems that will take us years into the future. We are replacing our legacy systems with SAP core merchandising solutions. Imagine the impact you can make by leading these efforts as our Director, Merchandising Planning and Operations. As the Director, Merchandising Operations and Planning, you will oversee the Shared Functions division and will manage 4 direct reports. You will work closely with the VP, Merchandising and the Directors of Merchandising Management (DMM’s) to set priorities and direction for REI Merchandising. In addition, you will direct the company financial planning process, market planning, merchandising operations and support, merchandising system administration and training. You will work closely with the Directors of Merchandising Management to support REI’s corporate priorities and financial performance. You will collaborate with IT, Supply Chain, DC, Retail, Online, Marketing and REI Gear and Apparel to understand cross divisional business needs and ensure business needs and processes are optimized. Responsibilities and Deliverables: • Creates vision and strategy for merchandising business processes design and systems implementation to ensure efficient and scalable business operations. • Continually improves business processes and operations across merchandising and the company. • Directs company financial planning process ensuring bottom up planning reconciles with company top down direction. • Create training, change management and business readiness plans to ensure implementation, user adoption and consistency of process across merchandising divisions. • Stays current on external developments and direction in merchandising, retail and logistics systems and process. • Develops strong working relationship with SAP and other vendors and service providers. Represents REI in negotiations and ensures that contractual performance and requirements are met. • Ensures business continuity plan is developed, communicated and aligned with company priorities. • Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages. • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results. • Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements. • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews. • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results. • Establishes and maintains visibility within the department. • Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action. Qualifications: 5+ years of merchandising experience in a multi-channel, retail organization 5+ years experience in a Management level role in Merchandising with experience in assortment planning, financial planning, business intelligence, inventory management, forecasting and replenishment and logistics and supply chain. Experience managing staff and developing employees Knowledge of retail, manufacturing and distribution process in a multi-channel retail environment. Experience leading and developing strategy for merchandising process and system design, implementation, training and business readiness. Experiencing developing long-range plans and managing financial budgets Knowledge of business principles from multiple disciplines and ability to apply these principles in driving change/outcomes in cross functional projects and activities. Merchandising system knowledge and experience: with SAP, Oracle, or other ERP system preferred.
